Joseph E. Westover autographed Japanese Government-issued 50 Centavos occupation currency note. Printed for circulation in the Japanese-occupied Philippines during World War II, the note has been signed by Westover in blue ink across the upper portion of the face. The reverse displays the ornate engraved design characteristic of the series.

Joseph E. Westover served as a U.S. Army Air Forces officer and commanded the Boeing B-29 Strange Cargo with the 509th Composite Group during World War II. Based on Tinian in the Mariana Islands, Strange Cargo was one of the specially modified Silverplate B-29 bombers assigned to support the atomic bombing program. Westover and his aircraft participated in missions connected with the 509th Composite Group’s operations against Japan during the final months of the war.
