James N. Van Pelt served as a captain in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron and was regularly assigned as aircraft commander of the B-29 Bockscar. He was a member of the crew selected to carry out the Nagasaki atomic mission on August 9, 1945.

Ray Gallagher served as a combat crew member aboard the B-29 Bockscar. He participated in the Nagasaki atomic mission on August 9, 1945, which dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and helped bring World War II to an end.
