Paul W. Tibbets (1915–2007) commanded the 509th Composite Group and piloted the B-29 Enola Gay on August 6, 1945, when it delivered the Little Boy atomic bomb over Hiroshima, the first use of a nuclear weapon in warfare. The mission marked a defining moment in military history and contributed to the end of World War II.
James A. Farley (1888–1976) served as U.S. Postmaster General from 1933 to 1940 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was one of the most influential political figures of the New Deal era. An avid philatelist whose name is closely associated with the famous “Farley’s Follies” stamp issues, he remained a towering figure in American politics and stamp collecting long after leaving public office.
