George R. Caron autographed Japanese Government-issued 50 Centavos occupation currency note. Printed for circulation in the Japanese-occupied Philippines during World War II, the note has been signed by Caron in blue ink across the lower portion of the face. The reverse displays the ornate engraved design characteristic of the series.

George R. Caron (1919-1995) served as the tail gunner aboard the Boeing B-29 Enola Gay during the atomic bombing mission over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. A member of the 393rd Bombardment Squadron, 509th Composite Group, Caron was the first crewman to report the bomb blast after detonation and photographed the rising mushroom cloud from the aircraft, creating some of the most iconic images of the mission. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of master sergeant and remained active in preserving the history of the Enola Gay crew and the 509th Composite Group.
