Byron R. White autographed pair of original 10 x 8” black-and-white photographs depicting Associate Justice White during official White House ceremonies under President Lyndon B. Johnson. One photograph shows President Johnson addressing attendees from the presidential podium bearing the Seal of the President while White stands with fellow dignitaries, including other members of the federal judiciary. The second photograph captures President Johnson personally greeting White during a White House reception. Both photographs are signed by White in bold ink along the lower border.

Byron Raymond “Whizzer” White (1917-2002) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1962 until his retirement in 1993. Before his judicial career, White earned national fame as one of the greatest college football players in American history at the University of Colorado and later led the NFL in rushing during his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates before military service interrupted his professional career. Following World War II, he graduated first in his class from Yale Law School, clerked for Chief Justice Fred M. Vinson, and entered private practice before serving as Deputy Attorney General under President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy appointed White to the Supreme Court in 1962, where he became known for his independent judicial philosophy, intellectual rigor, and willingness to depart from ideological expectations. During his three decades on the Court, White participated in many of the twentieth century’s most consequential constitutional decisions, leaving a lasting influence on American jurisprudence.
