Details:
John Connally autographed Honorary Texas Citizen commission issued by the State of Texas to James I. Murphy on April 9, 1968. The engraved commission appoints Murphy as an Honorary Texas Citizen and bears the printed State seal at top, an embossed gold State seal with red ribbon, Connally’s signature as Governor, and the signature of the Texas Secretary of State.
Overall good condition with expected handling wear and light age toning. There is light moisture damage affecting the lower portion of the document, resulting in minor feathering and softening to Connally’s signature, though it remains clearly legible and displays well.
John Connally (1917-1993) served as Governor of Texas from 1963 to 1969. He is best remembered for riding in the presidential limousine alongside President John F. Kennedy during the assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963, where he was seriously wounded. Connally later served as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury under President Richard Nixon.
