The Flag of Our Union (Boston, Massachusetts), July 18, 1846. Illustrated literary newspaper featuring the engraved illustration "An Unexpected Discovery" and the serialized tale "The Haunted Castle" by John Bird. Published during the opening months of the Mexican-American War, the issue combines popular fiction, illustrations, and contemporary news in one of the period's best-known literary newspapers.
Expected age toning, horizontal and vertical fold lines from period storage, light scattered foxing, and minor edge wear including a small chip along the lower edge at the center fold. A contemporary ownership inscription appears in the upper right margin.
