Charles W. Albury autographed 10 x 8” glossy black-and-white photograph depicting an aerial damage assessment map of Nagasaki following the atomic bombing of August 9, 1945. The image includes a printed assessment of damage to major industrial facilities and infrastructure throughout the city. Albury has signed and inscribed the upper left margin in black ink, “Capt. C.W. Albury, Pilot Nagasaki, Aug. 9, 1945.”

Charles W. Albury (1920–2009) was a U.S. Army Air Forces captain and co-pilot aboard the B-29 Bockscar during the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Flying alongside aircraft commander Major Charles W. Sweeney, Albury served as second-in-command on the historic mission that delivered the second atomic bomb used in warfare. A member of the elite 509th Composite Group, he later participated in veterans’ reunions and educational programs documenting the history of the atomic missions and their lasting significance.
