Charles W. Albury autographed First Day Cover honoring President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Albury has signed in blue ink.
Fine condition.
Charles W. Albury (1920-2009) served as co-pilot aboard the B-29 Bockscar during the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Flying alongside pilot Major Charles W. Sweeney and the crew of the 509th Composite Group, Albury helped complete the mission despite mechanical problems, deteriorating weather over the primary target, and dangerously low fuel reserves that forced an emergency landing at Okinawa. After World War II, Albury continued his career in the U.S. Air Force before retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He remained active in commemorating the history of the atomic bomb missions and the service of the 509th Composite Group.
