Charles Donald Albury (1920–2009) served as the co-pilot of the B-29 Bockscar during the atomic bombing mission over Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Flying alongside aircraft commander Major Charles W. Sweeney, Albury was a member of the elite 509th Composite Group, the specially selected unit responsible for delivering the world’s first atomic weapons in combat. Following the successful mission, Bockscar landed at Yontan Airfield on Okinawa due to critically low fuel before returning to Tinian. Signed material from Albury remains scarce, particularly examples directly related to the Nagasaki mission.
