Details:
Official partially printed and manuscript military discharge document signed by John Wadleigh as Adjutant and Inspector General of the State of New Hampshire, dated March 23, 1848, at Concord, New Hampshire. Issued on ornate Head-Quarters New-Hampshire Militia letterhead, the document records the accepted resignation and honorable discharge of Aaron F. Stickney, Captain of Infantry in the 8th Regiment of the New Hampshire Militia.
The document states that the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of New Hampshire accepted Captain Stickney’s resignation and that he was “hereby honorably discharged, at his own request,” from his commission in the state militia. Signed at the conclusion by Wadleigh in his official capacity, the piece represents an attractive example of pre-Civil War state militia administration and military service documentation from New England.
Good condition overall.
