William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879) was one of the foremost abolitionists of the nineteenth century and founder of The Liberator, the influential anti-slavery newspaper first published in 1831. A leading advocate for the immediate abolition of slavery, Garrison became one of the most prominent voices of the American abolitionist movement. Following the Civil War, he continued to support civil rights and women’s suffrage, leaving a lasting influence on the nation’s reform movements.
