Very good condition.
Joseph Warren Keifer (1836-1932) was a Union Army officer, attorney, politician, and author. During the Civil War he rose to the rank of brevet major general, participating in numerous campaigns including the Shenandoah Valley operations under Philip Sheridan. Following the war, he served as a U.S. Representative from Ohio and was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1881 to 1883. Keifer later returned to military service during the Spanish-American War and remained an influential figure in Republican politics and veterans’ affairs well into the twentieth century.
