Andrew Atkinson Humphreys (1810–1883) was a career U.S. Army officer, distinguished civil engineer, and Union general during the Civil War. He served with distinction in the Army of the Potomac, ultimately commanding the II Corps and later serving as Chief of Staff to General George G. Meade. Following the war, Humphreys became Chief of Engineers of the United States Army, overseeing numerous important public works and scientific surveying projects.
