Harper’s Weekly: A Journal of Civilization (New York), Vol. V, No. 236, July 6, 1861. Complete illustrated newspaper featuring a front-page wood engraving titled “Constituent Convention of Virginia, Assembled in the Custom-House at Wheeling, Ohio Co., June, 1861.” The illustration depicts delegates gathered during the convention that established the Unionist government of Virginia at Wheeling in the opening months of the Civil War. The front cover is surmounted by the patriotic banner “The Union Must and Shall Be Preserved.”
Good to very good condition. Light overall toning with scattered edge wear, small chips, and short tears along the margins, consistent with age and handling.
