Complete illustrated newspaper featuring a dramatic full front-page engraving titled “General Lyon at the Battle of Springfield.” The illustration depicts Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon raising his hat while leading Union troops during the Battle of Wilson’s Creek (also known as the Battle of Springfield) on August 10, 1861, where he became the first Union general killed in action during the Civil War. The issue contains additional Civil War reports, articles, and engravings.
