Harper’s Weekly: A Journal of Civilization (New York), Vol. VII, No. 347, August 22, 1863. Complete illustrated newspaper featuring front-page engravings of John Burns, the only civilian of Gettysburg to fight in the Battle of Gettysburg, together with Burns’ residence in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Published just weeks after the pivotal Union victory, the issue includes a portrait of Burns, who became a national hero after taking up arms alongside Union soldiers during the battle despite being nearly seventy years old. The issue contains additional Civil War reports, articles, and engravings.

Fair to good condition. Light overall toning with scattered foxing, edge wear, chips, and short tears along the margins, consistent with age and handling.
