Collection of Grand Army of the Republic material consisting of an original G.A.R. membership/reunion medal accompanied by two Admiral Farragut Post No. 52 roster booklets issued by the Department of New Hampshire. The booklets include the 1904 and 1908 rosters for Admiral Farragut Post No. 52 of Enfield, New Hampshire, each illustrated on the cover with a portrait of Admiral David G. Farragut and featuring photographs of the post’s Library and Memorial Building. Also included is an original bronze Grand Army of the Republic medal suspended from its patriotic red-and-white striped ribbon with eagle suspension bar.

Overall very good condition. The medal exhibits an attractive aged patina with expected wear to the ribbon from age and handling. The roster booklets display light toning, minor edge wear, and gentle handling wear consistent with use, while remaining clean and well preserved.

Founded in 1866, the Grand Army of the Republic was the nation’s largest fraternal organization for Union Civil War veterans. Local posts served as centers for fellowship, remembrance, and advocacy, while preserving the history and legacy of Union service for future generations. Named in honor of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, the Union Navy’s celebrated commander famous for his victory at Mobile Bay and the command, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,” Admiral Farragut Post No. 52 was among the New Hampshire posts that maintained active membership well into the early twentieth century.
