Near fine condition.
John Charles Frémont (1813-1890), known as “The Pathfinder,” was an explorer, military officer, politician, and one of the most prominent public figures of his era. His expeditions across the American West during the 1840s helped map vast territories and contributed significantly to westward expansion. Frémont served as a U.S. Senator from California and became the first presidential candidate of the newly formed Republican Party in 1856. During the Civil War, he was appointed a Union major general and commanded the Department of the West, where he gained national attention after issuing an early emancipation order in Missouri. Though the order was later revoked by President Abraham Lincoln, Frémont remained an important symbol of the anti-slavery movement and a significant figure in both American political and military history.
