Original printed Confederate Presidential Ticket issued for the November 6, 1861 election, listing Jefferson Davis of Mississippi for President and Alexander H. Stephens of Georgia for Vice President. The ticket was printed for the Tennessee Electoral Ticket, naming the state’s electors at large and district electors, while also endorsing David M. Currin for Congress in Tennessee’s Eleventh District. Measuring approximately 3 x 4.25 inches, the scarce ballot is attractively displayed in what appears to be its longtime presentation frame with a red velvet backing. The frame measures approximately 5.5 x 7 inches.

The framed display presents well with expected age toning, visible folds, scattered staining, and edge wear to the ticket. The frame exhibits light handling wear. The piece has not been removed from its sealed frame for inspection.

Following the formation of the Confederate States of America earlier in 1861, Jefferson Davis and Alexander H. Stephens stood for election as the Confederacy’s first constitutional President and Vice President. Although both had previously served in provisional roles, the November 6, 1861 election formally confirmed their leadership under the newly adopted Confederate Constitution. Original Confederate election ballots were ephemeral objects intended for immediate use and survival rates are exceptionally low, particularly for state-specific electoral tickets such as this Tennessee example. Today they rank among the most desirable political campaign artifacts of the Civil War era, documenting the Confederacy’s brief attempt to establish a functioning national government.
