Jacob Beser (1921-1992) was the only military serviceman to participate in both atomic bombing missions of World War II. As the radar countermeasures officer aboard the B-29 Enola Gay on the Hiroshima mission and Bockscar on the Nagasaki mission, he operated electronic jamming equipment designed to prevent Japanese radar from tracking the aircraft. A member of the elite 509th Composite Group, Beser was uniquely qualified in radar and electronic warfare and remains the only individual to have flown on both atomic bomb missions.
