Details:
George Crook autographed handwritten letter (ALS), one page, dated June 4, 1888, from Chicago, Illinois. Written entirely in Crook’s hand and signed at the conclusion in full.
George Crook writes regarding a matter involving the War Department and the status of an officer who had previously served as a recruiting officer. Referring to information received from General Bourke, Crook explains that the Secretary of War does not consider prior recruiting service a barrier to future assignment, while noting that General Taylor believed each case would be reviewed individually by the War Department. He closes by sending his kind regards to the recipient’s family. The letter provides an interesting glimpse into Army personnel matters and the professional correspondence of a senior military commander during the late nineteenth century.
Fine condition. Tipped into a slightly larger backing sheet along the edges only.
