Details:
Thomas J. Wood autographed document signed (DS), one page, dated January 25, 1849, at Austin, Texas. Signed by Wood in his capacity as a United States Army officer during the immediate post-Mexican-American War period.
This military receipt documents the transfer of government property, specifically acknowledging the receipt of “one hundred and ninety bushels corn” from Captain Samuel S. French. The document reflects routine Army logistical operations on the Texas frontier during a period of expanding military presence following the Mexican-American War. Though brief in content, it offers a recorded history of the supply and quartermaster functions essential to maintaining frontier military posts and provides an early example of Thomas J. Wood’s service before his rise to prominence during the Civil War.
Fine condition. Tipped into a slightly larger backing sheet along the edges only.
