Details:
An extensive collection of approximately fifteen publications issued by the Woman’s Relief Corps (W.R.C.), the official women’s auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic, spanning the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries. The group includes numerous editions of the organization’s official ritual books, rules and regulations, ceremonial manuals, patriotic publications, and service booklets, documenting the evolution of one of America’s most influential Civil War veterans’ organizations over several decades.
Highlights include multiple editions of the Ritual of the National Woman’s Relief Corps, with examples dated 1906, 1910, 1911, 1916, 1936, 1944, 1945, and 1946, along with an 1899 edition of Services, a Corps Services manual dated 1901, Rules and Regulations booklets from 1901 and 1902, Patriotic Selections for Patriotic Anniversaries and Other Patriotic Meetings (1919), and Origin and Author of “The Pledge of Allegiance” issued by the National Woman’s Relief Corps. Several volumes retain ownership inscriptions and many feature the organization’s emblem prominently on the title page or cover.
Very good condition overall.
Founded in 1883, the Woman’s Relief Corps served as the official auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, supporting Union Civil War veterans through charitable work, veterans’ relief, patriotic education, memorial observances, and historical preservation. As the largest patriotic women’s organization of its era, the W.R.C. played a significant role in caring for aging veterans, promoting loyalty to the Union, and preserving the memory of Civil War service for future generations. This substantial reference collection offers an excellent overview of the organization’s ceremonies, governance, and patriotic mission across more than forty years of its history.
