The Might of the Republic. Large composite albumen photograph published by A. Holdroyd of Columbus, Ohio, in 1866, featuring dozens of mounted albumen portraits of prominent Union military officers, political leaders, and statesmen, many accompanied by facsimile signatures. The patriotic design is centered beneath an American eagle with banners reading "The Might of the Republic" and includes additional vignettes of the United States Capitol, flags, artillery, and a central image of a United States Treasury note. Published shortly after the Civil War, the composite commemorates many of the leading military and political figures associated with the preservation of the Union. Measures approximately 15 x 19 inches.
Very good condition with expected age toning, light scattered foxing, and minor handling wear. The mount exhibits light edge wear and mild corner wear consistent with age. The verso of the mount retains scattered adhesive residue from a previous period framing.
