Norris E. Bradbury autographed Harry S. Truman First Day Cover commemorating the 33rd President of the United States. Bradbury has signed prominently in green ink across the lower portion of the cover. The cover bears the May 8, 1973, Independence, Missouri, First Day of Issue cancellation and is franked with a block of four 8¢ Harry S. Truman commemorative stamps.

Norris E. Bradbury (1909-1997) was an American physicist who succeeded J. Robert Oppenheimer as director of Los Alamos Laboratory in 1945, serving in that role until 1970. A member of the Manhattan Project, Bradbury helped oversee the assembly of the plutonium implosion bomb used at Nagasaki before assuming leadership of the laboratory following World War II. During his twenty-five-year tenure, he transformed Los Alamos from a temporary wartime installation into one of the nation’s premier scientific research institutions, guiding the development of the United States’ early nuclear weapons program during the Cold War.
