Civil War-era manuscript signature petition dated June 6, 1861, comprising three manuscript pages bearing more than fifty signatures. The reverse bears contemporary endorsements, including “Rec’d P.M.G. June 26/61,” documenting its receipt by the Office of the Paymaster General just weeks after its creation.

The petition contains signatures from individuals representing communities throughout the Union, with many signers identifying their city or state beneath their names, including New York, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Maryland, Washington, D.C., California, Louisiana, Minnesota, and numerous others.
