Details:

Civil War-era partly printed parole roll headed "Roll of Prisoners of War Paroled at Richmond." The document records the names, ranks, companies, regiments, capture information, and signatures of Union prisoners of war released on parole under the prisoner exchange system established during the Civil War. The printed oath reads, in part: "We, the undersigned, Prisoners of War, do give our parole of honor that we will not take up arms again, nor serve as military police or constabulary force in any fort, garrison or field-work, nor as guards of prisons, depots or stores, nor to discharge any duty usually performed by soldiers, until exchanged under the provisions of the Cartel entered into July 22, 1862." One page, circa 1862, measuring approximately 16.5 x 19 inches.

Expected age toning, intersecting fold lines, and handling wear. The document has substantial losses to the lower portion, affecting a significant area of the sheet but leaving the heading and much of the recorded content intact.
