Details:
Original luggage tag issued for a presidential trip during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, produced for a United Air Lines flight associated with the President’s 1955 visit to Denver, Colorado. The circular translucent plastic tag is printed on the obverse, “TRIP OF THE PRESIDENT,” above the United Air Lines globe logo and “Denver 1955.” The reverse is personalized to “S.-Sgt. Marvin Long, Columbine Crew, MATS Terminal, Washington, D.C.” and retains its original blue leather attachment strap.
The designation “Columbine Crew” refers to the personnel assigned to Columbine, the name used for President Eisenhower’s official aircraft prior to the adoption of the Air Force One call sign in 1953. Staff Sergeant Marvin Long served with the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) at Washington’s MATS Terminal, indicating the tag was issued to a member of the presidential aircrew or support staff responsible for the President’s travel arrangements.
Presidential travel tags of this nature were produced in limited quantities for members of the flight crew and support personnel.
Overall very good condition with light expected handling wear.
