Details:
Commemorative medal issued for the Centennial Celebration of the inauguration of George Washington as the first President of the United States, held in New York City on April 30, 1889. Suspended from its original red, white, and blue ribbon, the medal features a profile portrait of Washington within a star design inscribed "New York City - April 30th, 1889" and the patriotic motto, "First in War, First in Peace, and First in the Hearts of His Countrymen." The suspension bar bears an eagle above the inscription "Centennial Inauguration," flanked by shields dated 1789 and 1889. The reverse is maker marked "G. G. Braxmar, 35 Cortlandt St., New York."
Good condition with expected age wear and oxidation to the medal. The original ribbon is almost entirely detached from the suspension bar, remaining connected by only a single thread. The pin assembly remains present on the reverse.
