Description: Depicting a lady in a red robe with a rank badge or Mandarin square of 3rd civil rank; the man in black robe with stylized 'longevity' character in gold, below an altar table and figures with offerings, various vignettes with lines of calligraphy. Date: Qing Dynasty, second half 19th century. Notes: An interesting, but rather late, portrait. The lady wears the badge, perhaps she is thus entitled due to service rendered by her father to the Emperor. They are not very rare, as China had a large population even then, and a large group of officials could afford to sit for a portrait.
