This pair of submarine items is of 2 submarines that crossed paths in the Pacific Theatre during WW2. The first item is a crew member designed flag of the submarine O-19 of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The flag measures 25 1/2" long and 10 1/2" high. It features a graphic of the submarine and the Netherlands flag. With the flag is a patch for the USS Cod SS-224. The patch measures 5" x 3 1/2". The crews of these 2 subs crossed paths in 1944 after the O-19 ran aground on a reef after being damaged in battle with the Japanese Navy. The USS Cod rescued the crew of the O-19 and scuttled the boat to prevent capture. The USS Cod returned to port in Australia with the entire O-19 crew. Both items are held against a cardboard backing with clear plastic.
