Argentina, ca. 19th century. Gaucho knife with a long single-edged, tapering blade terminating in a sharp point. The blade is fitted with a brass alloy bolster, while the full tang is secured by rivets within a cattle horn handle of gracefully curved form, providing a comfortable grip. The accompanying silver-mounted scabbard is finely engraved with floral decoration and embellished with red velvet panels, a small animal-head finial, and an integral suspension loop. The horn handle exhibits weathering and minor age cracks, consistent with age and use. 12.5" H × 1.5" W (31.75 cm H × 3.81 cm W).
