A spectacular, oversized Grand Tour compote: the 12-inch diameter dish. The top sits on a fluted stem all rising from a circular socle and square plinth. Rich chocolate-brown patina with faint olive highlights.

Note: a small, shallow bend along the rim.

Other expected wear: minor rubs to high points and the occasional pinpoint of verdigris.

Why we love it: These bronzes were the Michelin-guide souvenirs of their day brought home by 19th-century travellers retracing the classical world.
