Description
A striking pair of large-scale campana-form garden urns, each set atop a matching square plinth pedestal, finished in a rich amber-ochre flambe glaze with warm caramel and burnt sienna tonal variation. The urns feature the classic campana (bell-cup) silhouette with vertical gadroon ribbing on the body, scrolled double handles, and a spreading circular foot that transitions to the pedestal base. Each square plinth is molded with a raised foliate rosette cartouche on the face panel "” a neoclassical ornamental detail executed with crisp relief.
The last image reveals the pedestal construction: hollow ceramic with an internal concrete or aggregate-filled base for ballast and stability "” consistent with quality architectural garden ceramics intended for outdoor use. The glaze shows expected weathering variation, adding character.
The form draws directly from 18th- and 19th-century English and Continental garden urn traditions "” Minton, Doulton, and later producers all worked in this vocabulary. This pair reads as mid-to-late 20th century production, likely Italian or American, in the architectural garden ceramic tradition.
