Cuban artist Arcadio Cancio (b. 1952)
ARCADIO CANCIO is a Cuban artist that has recreated the female figure in a very personal style. According to critics, the use of his figurative elements and the treatment of the color on his artworks, create patterns which traits impart them with a recognizable stroke of the brush. In his work, the artist talks to us with a very strong individual accent.
Cancio started his formal art studies at the age of twelve at the Lyceum of Guanabacoa. One year later he contributed to the founding of the Elementary School of Arts Concha Ferrant in Guanabacoa.
At age fourteen he enrolled in San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in Havana. He worked in Bohemia magazine as a caricaturist and 1lustrator until 1968 when he departed Cuba due to the political tensions and lack of liberties, which made impossible the artist's creation.
Cancio has participated in more than one hundred exhibitions in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. At the present Cancio lives in Miami, where he has his studio.
