Description
This handsome 19th-century mahogany veneer shelf clock represents the timeless craftsmanship of Seth Thomas of Thomaston, Connecticut. Featuring an elegant style with dual gilded side columns and a striking reverse-painted glass lower tablet depicting a patriotic American eagle and shield, this piece is a classic example of Americana. The brass movement is housed behind a hand-painted dial with floral spandrels and Roman numerals. This specimen is fully operational, chiming on the hour, and retains its original winding key. The interior features a remarkably clear paper manufacturer’s label and the backboard bears historical chalk signatures from past owners or smiths. The case shows age-appropriate wear including veneer chipping on the top and base, minor fading to the gilded accents, and scuffs on the finish; the dial and tablet show light crazing and minor paint loss, though the glass remains intact. H 25.5", W 15", D 4.5". Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/ Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
