Scarce white lined 11" x 8.5" double-sided five-page 3-hole punched stapled letter handwritten in black ink by legendary American folk singer Woody Guthrie to one Charlotte Strauss. The letter is dated December 8, 1945. In very good condition, with some signs of scattered wear, including slight toning and scattered ink marks. Written almost entirely in verse, the deeply personal letter reveals Guthrie's distinctive poetic voice outside of his songwriting, with one passage reading, "You should guess that you boil fires in both of us and that this is the only heat That makes hearts beat and guess that all thoughts spiritual are physical in me...I'm thirty three and small on my two feet and have had affairs enough to flood your street and yet you have my empty promise here I will or will not chase you like a deer..."
