Paper 15.25" x 12" black graphite with white gouache highlighted political cartoon titled "Hairbreadth Harry to the Rescue! signed in black ink by editorial cartoonist Jerry Costello. This particular cartoon amusingly depicts President Roosevelt's inability to stop the overriding Legislature, shown as a large train steamrolling its way toward the "beautiful Belinda budget" about to get run over, as an individual labeled "Public Demand" runs alongside holding a sign saying "The train must stop!" In very good condition, with some signs of scattered wear, including some slight toning and small tears to the edges, not affecting the artwork centered in the middle. The upper right corner of the back side has the pencil markings "#170" and "#120-" likely a numbering system for his works. This cartoon was illustrated by Gerald "Jerry" Costello known for his work at the Knickerbocker News and Walt Disney Studios.
