White paper 9" x 4.5" ship receipt penned and signed in the top right corner in black ink by American founding father John Hancock. Ship receipt was for the travel on the ship "Thomas" between the Harbor of Boston and London, including the transport of "One hundred thirty casks of Right Whale oil 21.5 13 1/2 gal." and is dated November 1770. Countersigned by William Davies at the bottom right. In very good to fine condition, with some signs of scattered wear, including some toning. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA (#AQ05720). This receipt was signed by Hancock less than a year after the infamous Boston Massacre, a major event that preceded the American Revolution. Although Hancock was not involved in the incident, he led a committee on the removal of the British troops responsible for the five deaths in Boston, an accomplishment that all but guaranteed his reelection to the Massachusetts House. A crisp signed document from one of America's Founding Fathers and the namesake of the iconic "John Hancock" signature, featuring over 30 words entirely in his hand.
