Land deed record, 8.5" x 3.5," for the District of Columbia, signed in black ink by American abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Deed is dated December 17th, 1883 and records details of a land transfer between Thomas Wilson and Reinhard H. Warren. In very good condition, with some signs of scattered wear, including some toning and pencil marks on the front, and a large blot of black ink on the back, not affecting the writing or signatures. Encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (#84317294). This deed was signed by escaped slave turned abolitionist Frederick Douglass in the years following Reconstruction in the South, where he continued speaking engagements in the US and abroad on the subject of slavery and women's suffrage. A distinctively signed paper from one of America's most beloved leaders, a man recognized as one of the earliest figures in the civil rights movement.
