This Thai shadow puppet is composed of hand-pierced and carved buffalo hide finished with black pigment. The central figure is a deity from the Ramakien epic shown in a dynamic pose with elaborate scrollwork and a naga serpent base. The work is mounted on a tan paper background and set within a glazed wooden frame.

22.5 inches (H) x 18.5 inches (W).

The pierced leather is in excellent state with no observed losses to the delicate scrollwork or filigree. Minor scuffing is present on the wood frame and the protective plastic film on the reverse is partially detached.
