Description:
A wonderful set of 21 antique dessert plates from Job Ridgway's Cauldon Place Works, Staffordshire, England, circa 1808-1814, pattern B1154. Each plate features a molded basketweave and trellis border with a lightly scalloped rim, decorated with hand-painted mulberry florals scattered across the well and rim.
This pattern has recently been identified as a newly discovered, previously undocumented Ridgway design "” a rare opportunity to acquire a large, cohesive set of an unrecorded early 19th-century pattern.
Dimensions: 8 7/8" diameter x 1 1/4"H
Condition: Excellent overall condition. Minor use and wear marks are consistent with age and use. Few minor chips across the entire set.
"The service features an identical, elegantly uniform puce floral motif across the plates. True to early 19th-century dessert services, there is a minor, historical variance in depth among a few pieces"”with some thrown slightly flatter for pastries, and others featuring a slightly deeper well to accommodate wet fruits or compotes."
