His real name was Zhu Tongtuo, courtesy name Xuege, and pseudonyms included Bada Shanren, Geshan, Renwu, and Daolang. He excelled in painting and calligraphy, primarily using ink wash to depict flowers and birds, characterized by exaggerated and unique forms, concise and resolute brushstrokes, and a majestic and enduring style. His landscapes followed the style of Dong Qichang, with simple brushwork, a serene charm, and a sense of spaciousness. He was also skilled in calligraphy and poetry, using very little ink. 1626 to 1705.
