This Yoruba drum is carved with a monumental face depicting Eshu on one side. Beneath the mask, a pair of kneeling women present offerings, flanked by female figures carrying children on their backs. The reverse is decorated with a vertical arrangement of three Eshu faces beneath a triangular motif, which is similarly flanked by kneeling female attendants bearing children and presenting offerings.

Condition

Good condition. Surfaces with assorted finish wear, losses to pigments and small scuffs and scratches associated with age and use. Drum head is still somewhat taught and sounds well when struck.
