Description
This artist proof by Ruth Kerkovius (1921-2007) is a one of a kind etching. It is a wonderful depiction of the countryside and the colors are strong yet subtle - beautiful earthtones with a hint of blues and grays. It was produced on Arches paper, made in France. It has a mat but is not framed.
Ruth Kerkovius was born in Latvia in 1921. She received her early training in Munich, Germany, working in theatre Costume History and Design, and in painting before she moved to the United States. Once in New York she studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts, the Pratt Graphic Art Center under Frasconi, and then continued at Pratt on a fellowship to work under Michael Ponce de Leon.
Her work is in the collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Library of Congress, The National Gallery of Art, the University of Chicago, and Wesleyan University.
