Description
Unique giltwood framed display of a signed photo of Sarah Bernhardt accompanied by a lithographic etching of Marcelle Lender by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901). Both ladies were highly celebrated performers in French theater during the same time period, and this piece captures the glamour of Parisian nightlife during the Belle Epoque. Post-impressionist French painter, lithographer and illustrator Toulouse-Lautrec was captivated by Marcelle (1862-1926) as she was the subject of several of his works. The original portrait is in The British Museum, and the lithograph is stamped in the lower right corner. Beneath the lithograph is a photo of famed performer Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) with her signature and personal dedication dated 1902. She starred in popular French plays and was often referred to "the most famous actress in the history of the world." This special piece is set under glass in a gorgeous ornately carved giltwood frame. Tres chic!
