Adorable 1950s modern portrait, oil on canvas painting by Maurice Ambroise Ehlinger (1896 - 1981). The model is Miss France Noel a socialite from the Paris bourgeoisie. The painting is hand-signed in the bottom left corner.
A caption on the canvas at the back reads: "Mademoiselle France Noel par M. Ehlinger - MCMLVII".
Originally framed in an elegant ornate cerused or limed oak frame with gray painted liner.

About:
Maurice Ehlinger (1896 - 1981).
Painter, born in Champagney, Haute Saone, France in 1896. He spent part of his life in Moyenmoutier in the Vosges. Thanks to a grant from the City of Saint Die, he was able to follow the teaching of Larcher at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. Then, he went to Paris to follow the teaching of masters Jules Adler and Francois Flameng. He had to become a drawing teacher during this period at evening classes for the City of Paris.
He started exhibiting at The Salon of French Artists in 1922. In 1926, he received a Bronze Medal, and in 1928, a Silver Medal. In 1938, a major exhibition only on his painting was organized in the Galerie Charpentier. Finally, he won a Gold Medal, Hors Concours in 1941.
He became famous for female portraits, nudes, and children's portraits. His studio was in Montmartre, Paris.
He is present in many French museums and particularly in the Saint Die City Museum (East of France), where 37 paintings and many drawings are exhibited. He passed away in 1981 in Belfort.
