This Satin Argonaut Shell Cand Dish MCM by Portieus Vallerystahl is in excellent condition. It is attributed to Portieus Vallerystahl but not marked. NO chips, stains, flea bites etc. It measures 7" H x 6 1/4" in diameter. A little history: Portieux Vallerysthal is a region that became a center for glass-making during the 19th century. The land originally was under the control of France and called Portieux, but in 1870, Germany claimed it and renamed the area Vallerysthal. Portieux Vallerysthal is a renowned French glassworks company with a rich history dating back to the early 18th century. Established in 1705 under the patronage of Duke Leopold of Lorraine, the Portieux glassworks began in the Vosges region of northeastern France. In 1836, the Vallerysthal glassworks were founded in Lorraine. The two companies merged in 1870, combining their expertise and traditions. Portieux Vallerysthal is celebrated for its exquisite opaline glassware, characterized by its translucent, milky appearance, as well as its production of crystal and decorative glass pieces. Westmoreland made candy dishes in this pattern but none in frosted glass.
