This Modern Music and Musicians Piano Compositions Volume V The University Society Inc. 1918 is signed by Charles Dennee who's picture is in the front of the book. The book is tight and no-lose pages, backing etc. Pages have tanned slightly and one corner is ruffed up (see photo). This book has practice pages and progresses to grade 5 pianist. A little History:The University Society is known for its publication of The Century Library of Music, a 20-volume collection of piano music edited by Ignace Paderewski and published around 1900-1902, of which parts were reprinted in 1956 in The International Library of Music. Other multivolume series include The World's Best Composers, edited by Victor Herbert and additional series of volumes devoted to art songs, operatic excerpts and piano music. Charles Frederick Dennee (1863 - April 29, 1946) (picture signed by him in front of book) was an American composer. He wrote many pedagogical pieces for piano and composed a number of songs. He wrote the scores for two Broadway musicals. He compiled a series of four books for piano study, published under the International Library of Music during his time as a piano professor at the New England Conservatory of Music. The four published collections include his original pieces for technical piano study, small etude studies, explanatory text by Dennee, and a selection of well-known classical composers.
